MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Army track and field will cap a week of outdoor training in Myrtle Beach, S.C., with its first meet of the season, the Shamrock Invitational hosted by Coastal Carolina University. Events at Dough Shaw Stadium begin Thursday with the heptathlon and decathlon with the main track and field events slated for a Friday afternoon start.

Army is making its first trip to Coastal Carolina since 2005 when the Black Knights spent spring break training in South Carolina before opening the outdoor schedule at the Coastal Carolina Invitational. Army has spent the majority of the spring breaks since training in Tampa, Fla., and competing at the USF Invite, with the exception of 2011’s excursion to Puerto Rico.

Army last competed at the ECAC and IC4A Indoor Championships in Boston, Mass., March 2-3, when the Black Knights saw an unprecedented four program records get shattered, including the Academy’s 26-year old 5,000-meter women’s standard which was snapped by sophomore standout Lisa Junta.

Army will remain on the road for its second meet of the outdoor campaign when the Black Knights head to the Tribe Open hosted by William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va. Events are scheduled March 22-23.
