WEST POINT, N.Y. - Junior middle distance runner Clyde Wilsonwas named the Army Athletic Association Athlete of the Week on Monday following a career performance at the IC4A Indoor Track & Field Championships over the weekend.
He is the second track athlete to be honored this year, joining freshman Jose Santanawho co-shared the AAA award last month.
Wilson captured the bronze medal in the 800-meter run Sunday afternoon after posting a career-best clocking of 1:51.30 that nipped his former mark of 1:51.31 set at the IC4A meet last year. Both times rank as the seventh fastest in program history.
The native of Corpus Christi, Texas, finished second in Saturday's prelims with a time of 1:51.9 among a field of 41 runners with nine qualifying for Sunday's finals. Wilson shaved 0.6 off that time en route to finishing third in the finals as he improved upon a sixth-place finish at last year's meet.
After putting the finishing touches on its indoor season competing at the ECAC (women) and IC4A (men) Championships over the weekend, Army will head to Myrtle Beach, S.C., to join a challenging field March 20-22 at the Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium for the Shamrock Invitational XVIII.
