WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army’s indoor track and field teams has over 30 qualifiers headed to the ECAC and IC4A Championships being held at Boston University Track and Tennis Center this weekend. The events are scheduled to begin with the heptathlon and pentathlon on Friday with finals on Sunday.
Army’s men are coming off a third-place showing at the Patriot League Championships where freshman Jose Santana was named the Male Rookie of the Meet. He broke school and meet marks in the 60-meter dash, won the 400-meter dash and ran the anchor leg on the 4x400-meter relay.
Junior Christopher Kittle, named the Patriot’s League Scholar Athlete of the Year, starts off the competition in the Heptathlon Friday at 4 p.m. Kittle captured the title at the conference championships with a career-high 4959 points, which is tied for second place on Army’s top 10 chart.
Santa will be competing in the 400-meter dash with Matt Green and Xavier Moss on Saturday. Green and Moss will join senior co-captain Christopher Smith and Stevyn Spees on the 4x400-meter relay team that is coming off a winning performance at the conference championships. Smith and Spees will also be among the runners in the 500-meter dash as that duo went one-two, respectively, at the conference championships.
Army’s men have also qualified athletes in the pole vault, 60-meter hurdles, the mile run, the 800-meter run, the 1,000, 3,000 and 5,000, along with two relays with competition on Saturday starting at 10:15 a.m.
The Army women’s competition gets underway Saturday at 3 p.m. with the weight throw and pole vault. Amy Slaughter will represent the Black Knights in the weight throw with a trio of athletes competing in the pole vault. Ashley Zeitvogel, who set an Academy record in the pole vault after clearing 12 feet, 8 inches, capturing the event at the conference championships, will be joined in that event by Megan Gemar and Laurel Neposchlan.
Also scheduled to compete are Lindsay Gabow and Madison Hill in the 5000-meters, along with the 4x800-meter relay team of Katrina Donarski, Elizabeth Moton, Jennifer Comfort and Alexandra Sutherland.

The ECAC and IC4AChampionships mark the final event in Army’s indoor schedule. The outdoor schedule has Army competing at the CCU Invitational in Myrtle Bach, S.C., March 21-22.
