Army Headed To Armory Collegiate Invitational

WEST POINT, N.Y.  – The Army men’s and women’s track and field team’s regular season will continue this weekend when the Black Knights travel to New York City to compete at The Armory Collegiate Invitational this Friday and Saturday. The annual meet will have well over 100 colleges and universities in attendance, spanning from both the nation and globe, coming in for the two-day event, which has been selected as this week's USTFCCCA Division I National Meet of the Week.

The meet opens with the men and women’s Eastern 3K at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, with the shot put opening the field events at the same hour. Saturday’s events will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the women’s 5K and will close with a multitude of relay races. For a full schedule of results, please visit the calendar and results page of

In its last outing, the Army men’s and women’s teams fell to Navy in Annapolis, Md.

Freshman Jose Santana led the men’s team with academy records in the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. Additionally, Santana was recognized by the Patriot League for the second time this season as the Male Rookie of the Week for his performance versus Navy. Additionally, 10 other Army men will be joining the freshman sprinter in the post-season after qualifying for the IC4A championships.

On the women’s side, the Black Knights posted three ECAC qualifying marks in the field. Ashley Zeitvogel and Megan Gemar went 1-2 in the pole vault, while Amy Slaughter qualified with a second-place finish in the weight throw.

This weekend’s event will mark the final tune-up before the Black Knights head into the Patriot League Championships in Lewisburg, Pa. The three-day meet, hosted by Bucknell University, begins on Thursday, Feb. 20, with finals held on Saturday, Feb. 22.
