WEST POINT, N.Y.  – After setting two academy records in Army’s Indoor Star Meet this past weekend, freshman runner Jose Santana was tabbed Patriot League’s Male Rookie of the Week on Tuesday afternoon. This week’s honors will be the second time Santana has earned the Rookie of the Week title, including his Dec. 9 recognition.

Santana opened Saturday’s meet in Annapolis, Md., with two impressive back-to-back performances in the 60-meter dash and 200-meter race. The Orlando, Fla., native, who already qualified for the IC4A Championship meet earlier this season, posted another qualifying mark of 6.85 in the 60-meter dash. Santana’s time not only bested all runners but also tied the all-time academy record at West Point set by Army’s Alfred Daniel in the 2010 Patriot League Championship meet.

In the following event, Santana finished second crossing the line at 21.77, posting an additional academy record time and IC4A qualifying mark in the 200 meter. Santa’s performance outshone Reggie Anderson’s academy record by .01 seconds. Anderson’s record was set at the IC4A Championships on March 4, 2000.

Additionally, Santana ran lead leg in the 4x400 meter relay team who placed first over Navy. The freshman teamed up with classmate Xavier Moss, and senior co-captains Matt Green and Chris Smith, in which the foursome posted a time of 3:14.49.

Army will have one final tune-up meet before the postseason begins. The Black Knights will travel to New York City for the Armory Invite on Friday, Feb. 7, and Saturday, Feb. 8.
