PRINCETON, N.J. – Army continued its stay at the ECAC and IC4A Championships at Princeton’s Weaver Stadium on Saturday as a trio of Black Knights qualified for Sunday’s finals. The Black Knights highlighted Day 2 with a number of performances, including a pair of marks which rank among the best in Academy history.
Senior Kyler Martin’s showing in the 110-meter hurdles preliminary was especially notable as Martin qualified for Sunday’s final in historic fashion. Martin finished second of 35 in the prelims with the third-fastest time in program history, 14.00 seconds. Martin, who was named the Track Performer of the Meet at last weekend’s Patriot League Championships, was one of four Black Knights to compete in the 110-hurdles but the lone one to advance to Sunday’s competition.
Martin also ran in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing 26th of 32 (54.48), while junior Chris Smith narrowly missed the cutoff for the finals with his 10th-place time of 53.12.
Sophomore Clyde Wilson also punched his ticket for Sunday with his third-place time in the 800-meter run. Wilson will run at 1:40 p.m. on Sunday after crossing the line in 1:50.26.
Despite not advancing to the finals, the women’s 4x400-meter relay squad recorded a notable time. Sophomores Sam Reid and Katrina Donarski teamed with senior tri-captains Kaitlyn Love and Ashley Gordon for the fifth-best time in program history, 3:48.48. The finish is the best by an outdoor Army unit since 2008.
A trio of throwing events were contested on Saturday as Army had entrants in the women’s javelin as well as the men’s discus and hammer. Senior Nick Snoad stood out amongst the competitors, claiming third place in the hammer throw with a toss of 61.20 meters.
Throwers will kick off Sunday’s competition beginning at 9 a.m. with the men’s shot put. Army has a pair of representatives in the shot as senior Scott Geary and junior Shane Jones are scheduled to contest for the title. See below for the full list of Army events.
