Women's Team Kicks Off First Day at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.  – Army track and field began its three-day stay at the Penn Relays on Thursday as 11 members of the women’s team competed across six events. Junior Azeezat Olatunde highlighted the day’s competition by recording at career-best mark in the shot put.

Olatunde placed 16th of 32 in the Eastern Division of the shot put with a throw of 13.11 meters. Olatunde was one of three Black Knights in the event as freshman Cody Rothschild claimed 31st place (11.38m) and classmate Emily Ezerins finished 32nd (11.02m).

Senior McKenzie Majchrzak also had a strong showing on Day 1, snagging ninth place in a field of 26 in the high jump. Majchrzak eclipsed the bar at 1.68 meters for her best height of the 2013 outdoor season.

Competition continues on Friday beginning at 9 a.m. with the men’s 400-meter hurdles race. Senior Kyler Martin, junior Chris Smith and freshman Marcus Phillips are expected to compete in the event.
