Track Meet April 12
WEST POINT, N.Y. - Army's outdoor track and field teams put the finishing touches on the home portion of its schedule with the men finishing first and the women second in a five-way meet on Senior Day at Shea Stadium Saturday afternoon.
The men, compiling seven first-place finishes, won the meet with 159 points in besting runner-up Manhattan (136.5) followed by Binghamton (108), Middlebury (80), Williams (28.5) and Colgate (15).
Binghamton won the women's meet with 155 points followed by Army (109) with Williams and Manhattan tying for third with 94 points. Middlebury (59) and Colgate (25) rounded out the field.
Five of the men's wins came on the track with Dylan Chamberlin and Jacob Fong setting season bests in the 1500-meter run (3:54.23) and 3000-meter steeplechase (9:43.12), respectively. Senior co-captain Chris Smithmet the IC4A qualifying time once again in the 400-meter hurdles following his winning mark of 53.01.
Sprinter Nicholas Beavers beat the field in the 110-meter hurdles (15.13) and distance runner Matthew Bearden posted a winning clocking of 15:10.81 in the 5000-meter run. Army had a pair of wins in the field events with Tony Holland setting a season best tying for first-place in the high jump (1.95 meters) and Jacob Drozdmeeting the IC4A stand again following his winning toss of 61.82 meters.
The men were second in one event - Marcus Phillips, 400-meter hurdles (55.12) - along with six third-place finishes. In the field events, John Karber posed a season best 13.43 in the triple jump that earned third-place honors. Also placing third was Blake McPherson, javelin (58.71m) and Alex Fletcher, discus (44.59).
In the track events, Alex Duffy and Stevyn Spees recorded season bests taking the bronze in the 1500-meter run (3:54.83) and 800-meter run (1:53.73), respectively. Also place third was Kenner Broullirein the 100-meter dash (11.16).
The women were second in four events and third in seven events. Leading the way with runner-up honors were Alexandra Sutherland in the 1500-meter run (4:42.45). Azeezat Olatunde in the shot put (13.26m), Katrina Donarski, 400-meter dash (season best 1:00.10), along with the 4x400-meter relay. Sutherland and Donarski also ran legs on the relay team, to include Madaline Kenyon and Samantha Reid, that combined for a clocking of 4:02.49.
Cody Rothschild was third in both the shot put (12.15m) and discus (42.75), meeting the ECAC standard in the latter. Elizabeth Motonalso posted a pair of third-place finishes in the 1500-meter run (4:42.74) and 800-meter run (season best 2:18.84).
Rebecca Cousens turned in a season-best and met the ECAC standard in the hammer throw (47.37m), Shelbi Doehling cleared 1.57 meters in the high jump and Jennifer Comfortposted a 1:00.33 in the 400-meter dash in rounding out Army's third-place finishers.
Next up for the Black Knights is the Larry Ellis Invitational next weekend.
