WEST POINT, N.Y.  – Army won 12 events at the annual Dick Shea Open marking the first home competition of the outdoor season for the Black Knight track and field team. Three of those 12 first-place marks rank within the top five in program history as Army wrapped up its final competition before the Navy Star Meet in emphatic fashion.

Senior tri-captain Nick Snoad highlighted the first day of competition with his performance in the hammer throw. Snoad recorded the second-best toss in program history with his first-place distance of 62.80 meters. The mark is the best by a Black Knight since 1996 and is the best in the Patriot League this season as Snoad is the only thrower in the conference to record a distance greater than 60 meters.

Fellow thrower Jacob Drozd also climbed up the historical charts as the sophomore recorded the fifth-best javelin mark in Academy history on Saturday afternoon. Drozd won the event with a throw of 63.42 meters to move from seventh to fifth.

Senior Kyler Martin rounded out the historical marks for the Black Knights. Martin ran the third-fastest 110-meter hurdles time in program history with his winning finish of 14.24 seconds. The reigning Patriot League Track Athlete of the Week began the weekend with the No. 7 hurdles time, while his finish at the Dick Shea is the best by a Black Knight since Domonick Sylve set the event record in 2011.

Sophomore Chris Kittle also had a solid weekend by winning the decathlon with a career-best 6137 points. The point total is the best by an Army athlete since 2011.

Other event winners for the Black Knights include Jessica Waggoner (discus), Mary Prakel (1,500m), Dan Jester (3,000-meter steeplechase), Dylan Chamberlen (800m), Chris Smith (400-hurdles), Azeezat Olatunde (shot put), Mark Van Benschoten (pole vault) and McKenzie Majchrzak (high jump).

Following this weekend’s meet, Army will prepare for the biggest event of the regular season – the annual outdoor Star Meet with Navy. This season’s academy showdown is set for Annapolis, Md., on Saturday, April 6, beginning with the women’s meet at 10 a.m. Navy has swept the three most-recent Star Meets (indoor and outdoor), with the last Army win coming at the 2011 men’s outdoor competition.
