BOSTON, MASS. – Army track and field wrapped up competition at the ECAC and IC4A Championships on Sunday afternoon as the Black Knight men placed 20th of 44 teams, while the women captured 16th in a field of 53 squads.  A day after shattering four Academy records, Army entrants shaved off more time from the men’s 4x400-meter relay while also recording three additional marks which rank among the best in program history.

The men’s 4x400 finished over half a second faster than the Army record which they established during the preliminary round on Saturday as their time of 3:12.03 earned sixth place in Sunday’s final. Running the race were juniors Matt Green and Chris Smith, sophomore Patrick Taylor, and freshman Stevyn Spees.

Smith also qualified for the 500-meter dash finals after running the seventh-fastest time in program history on Saturday. The Army cow finished in eighth place on Sunday with the sixth-fastest time in West Point history, crossing the line in 1:03.71.

Sophomore Katrina Donarski ran in the women’s 500-meter finals a day after re-setting the Army record which she originally established against Navy on Feb. 3, earning fifth place with a time of 1:13.72.

Senior Kevin Russell made the biggest leap up the Army charts as the team tri-captain entered the day ranked 10th in the 1,000-meter run and would finish five spots higher by day’s end. Russell placed third with the fifth-fastest time in Academy history, crossing the line in 2:24.79 for Army’s quickest mark since 2004.

Rounding out the historic times on the day was sophomore Clyde Wilson’s performance in the 800m. Wilson finished sixth in the 800-meter finals with the No. 6 time in Academy history, 1:51.31.

Fellow finals competitors for Army was senior Kyler Martin in the 60-meter hurdles (ninth; 8.08 seconds), sophomore Cody Barger in the 3,000m (10th of 35, 8:15.52) and junior Ricardo Galindo also in the 3K (14th, 8:18.46). The men’s distance medley relay also qualified for Sunday’s final, finishing in sixth place with a time of 9:54.47. The DMR was comprised of Andreas Kellas, Jerome Raphael, Mitch Dutton and Nathan Fisher.

Army’s trip to the ECAC, IC4A Championships mark its final indoor meet of the season. Following the Black Knights’ spring break training trip to Puerto Rico which will include the Carolina Spring Break Classic meet, Army’s next competition stateside will be March 22-23 at William & Mary’s Tribe Open.
