WEST POINT, N.Y. - After taking last weekend off, the Army swimming and diving teams return to action on Friday, Oct. 19, when the Black Knights travel to Amherst, Mass., to face Massachusetts. The Army men bring an unblemished 2-0 record into Friday's action after sweeping Boston College and Rowan in their season opener on Oct. 5. The Black Knight women carry an undefeated 3-0 mark into the matchup with UMass after defeating Boston College, Rowan and Vermont during that season-opening meet.

Massachusetts opened its 2012-13 campaign last weekend at Boston University. The UMass men dropped a 182.5-116.5 decision to the host Terriers, while the Minutewomen suffered a 177-118 setback to BU.

Army freshman Chris Szekely posted a pair of individual victories in the middle-distance freestyle events to pace the Black Knight men in the pool during the season opener. Senior Chris Nguyen paced the Black Knights off the boards, swept both diving events.

Freshman Nat Beale, who was named the Patriot League Female Swimmer of the Week following his first collegiate meet, had a hand in four victories in the pool to pace the Army women in the lid lifter. Fellow freshman Molly Mucciarone won a pair of individual events to help lead the Army women to the sweep.

Szekely, competing in his first meet as a Black Knight, won both the 200 free and 500 free. Nguyen, who has been named Patriot League Diver of the Meet each of the last two seasons, took gold in the one-meter and three-meter diving events.

Sophomore distance specialist Casey Woudenberg performed well in the season opener as well, winning the 1000 free and placing second in the 500 free. Fellow sophomore Will Viana, who was named Patriot League Rookie of the Year last season, won the 200 back and registered a second-place showing in the 200 free.

Beale began her first career meet by teaming with freshman Jess Fabrizio, sophomore Kristina Muller and junior Grace Hamilton to win the 200-yard medley relay. Beale then went on to capture individual victories in the 100 back, 200 back and 200 IM.

Mucciarone, meanwhile, displayed her versatility by taking gold in the 50 free and 100 fly, while also finishing second in the 100 free.

Junior Danielle Ullman paced the Black Knights in the diving events, winning the one-meter event and finishing third off the three-meter board.

The Army men show a 5-2 all-time record versus UMass after posting a 177-112 victory over the Minutemen last season at West Point. The Black Knight women, meanwhile, are 1-6 all-time versus Massachusetts after dropping a 151-149 decision last year. The two schools have met every year since the series began in 2005-06.

Following Friday's meet, the Black Knights will return to the friendly confines of Crandall Pool to host Connecticut on Friday, Oct. 26. The Army-UConn meet is set to get under way at 6 p.m.
