Patriot League Releases Swimming & Diving Preseason Polls

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Patriot League unveiled its 2012-13 swimming and diving preseason polls on Wednesday afternoon, and the Army men and women were both picked to finish within the top half of the conference.

The Army men's team was picked third in the poll in the vote by the league's head coaches and sports information directors. The Black Knights garnered one first-place vote and totaled 77 points to place behind Navy and Bucknell in the preseason listing. Army finished third at last year's Patriot League Championships.

The Army women, meanwhile, were selected fourth in the preseason poll. The Black Knights received 58 points to edge Lehigh (54) for the fourth position. Army placed fourth at the 2012 Patriot League Championships, recording its highest finish since 2007.

Navy was a unanimous choice to win the Patriot League on the men's side, receiving 14 first-place votes and 98 points to top the poll. Bucknell received one first-place vote and accumulated 82 points to list second. Army was third, followed by Lehigh (63 points), American (43), Colgate (39), Lafayette (32) and Holy Cross (14).

The Black Knight men return All-Patriot League selections Ayman Andrews (first team), Chris Nguyen (first team), Will Viana (second team) and Zachary Woods (second team).

Navy was picked to defend its title on the women's side, earning 11 first-place votes and 95 total points. Colgate was tabbed second, earning four first-place votes and 88 points. Bucknell snared the final first-place vote and was picked third with 74 points. Army was followed by Lehigh, American (33 points), Lafayette (32) and Holy Cross (14).

Army will lift the lid on its 2012-13 campaign on Friday, Oct. 5, when the Black Knights welcome Boston College, Rowan and Vermont to West Point's Crandall Pool for a quad-meet. The competition is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
