WEST POINT, N.Y. – After taking nearly three weeks off from competition, two of Army’s most talented divers will travel to Christiansburg, Va., this weekend (March 10-12) to compete at the NCAA Zone “A” Diving Championships.
Juniors Zachary Woods and Josh Urnezis will represent the Black Knights at this weekend’s event, which will be hosted by Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University inside the Christiansburg Aquatics Center.
A total of 98 men and women divers will compete at the NCAA Zone “A” Diving Championships, with just five from each side qualifying for the NCAA Championships.
The competition begins on Monday, March 10, with the three-meter preliminaries scheduled to get under way at 12 p.m. Action continues on Tuesday, March 11, with the one-meter competition slated to start at 12 p.m. The final round of both platform events will be contested on Wednesday, March 12 at p.m. The weekend’s schedule of events can be found by clicking the link here.
Woods was named to the All-Patriot second team for the third consecutive season after placing runner up off the one-meter board (306.90) at the conference championships. The Collierville, Tenn., product also took a second-place finish off the three-meter board with a personal best score of 334.10.
Urnezis, meanwhile, authored the Black Knight’s third highest points total off the three-meter board and second highest point total off the one-meter board at the annual championship meet at Leujene Hall. The Kihei, Hawaii native opened the second day of competition with a fifth-place finish off the one-meter board with 272.55 points. The junior diver then went on to close the meet with a seventh-place finish off the three-meter board with a score of 279.30.
Both divers will be looking to qualify for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, which will be contested March 27-29 at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin, Texas.
