Army junior Alyssa Tran was among the 21 Patriot League swimming and diving student-athletes named to the 2012 Academic All-Patriot League Team, it was announced by the conference on Monday.
Tran was named to the All-Patriot League second team for the third year in a row after piling up 31 points at the conference championships. Her efforts in the pool helped the Black Knight women to their highest finish (fourth) since 2007.
The Yorba Linda, Calif., native authored three top-15 showings at the conference meet, placing third in the 50-yard freestyle, taking seventh in the 100-yard butterfly and finishing 14th in the 100 free. Tran was also a member of four scoring relays for the Black Knights, including the Academy-record setting 200 free and 400 free relays.
Tran has also excelled in the classroom throughout her time at West Point as the Electrical Engineering major boasts a 3.216 GPA.
To be eligible for the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen are not eligible for this honor.
