Senior Matt Joiner placed runner-up off the three-meter board to lead Army at the Galbraith Diving Invitational on Friday at RU Aquatics Center on the campus of Rutgers University.
Joiner racked up 259.10 markers to finish just 15 points behinds Massachusetts' Alex Merkulov. The Black Knights took three of the top four spots in the three-meter event as freshman Zachary Woods (255.10) and junior Chris Nguyen (252.00) placed third and fourth, respectively.
Senior Evan Walsh (218.30), junior Vinny Franchino (204.40) and freshman Josh Urnezis (200.80) rounded out the top eight, placing sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively.
Freshman Maggie Churchill set the pace for the Army women, placing ninth in the semifinals of the three-meter event. The first-year diver piled up 184.60 points and just missed qualifying for the finals.
The Army women's swimming and diving team returns to action later today when the Black Knights face C.W. Post in a dual meet at 6 p.m. The Army men are back in the pool on Saturday, Nov. 19, when the Black Knights travel to Columbia at 12 p.m.
