NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Army men’s swimming team comes out of its meet versus Columbia with a 2-2 record after falling in a 115.5-185.5 decision on Sunday, Nov. 17. Army now bears a 57-24 all-time record versus the Lions.
The Black Knights won just five of 16 events contested as they fell for the second time this season. Columbia, which fell to Penn on Friday, Nov. 15 and collected its first win to Yale on Saturday, Nov. 16, improves to 2-1 following today’s results.
Junior Joon Chung led Army with two first-place victories on Sunday, including the 200-yard and 100-yard breaststroke events. Chung clocked in 58.62 in the 100 breast in addition to a 2:07.14 performance in the 200 breast.
Sophomore Chris Szekely and junior Casey Woudenberg rounded out the first-place individual finishes for the Black Knights. Szekely swam for a time of 1:40.98 in the 200-yard freestyle while Woundenberg clocked in at 9:38.91 in the 1000-yard freestyle. Freshman Clay Harmon also collected points for Army, taking the silver, following Woundenberg, in the 1000 free.
Junior Josh Urnezis took silver in the one-meter diving event (262.35) and finished third in the three-meter discipline (259.13) to lead Army off the boards.
The Black Knights 400-yard medley relay team came out on top as teammates, Szekely, Woudenberg, senior Kenny Yacynych and junior Will Viana swam for the gold. Army’s 200-yard medley team of sophomore Tyler Sowell, sophomore Adam Sjoholm, senior Wesley Trumbauer and junior Michael Dustin, also collected points placing runner-up in Sunday night’s loss.
Following Sunday’s meet, both teams return to action on at the Frank Elm Invitational in Piscataway, N.J., which will be held Nov. 22-24. Complete results and a recap will become available on goARMYsports.com at the conclusion of the meet.
