WEST POINT, N.Y. - Three senior members of the Army rifle team, Joseph Todaro, Richard Calvin and Michael Matthews, were named All-Americans by the National Rifle Association (NRA) . Todaro was also selected to the inaugural Lapua Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) All-American Team as an honorable mention.
It is the third straight year that Todaro and Matthews were named NRA All-Americans and second time for Calvin as the number of certificates under Ron Wigger-coached teams is at 47.
Todaro was selected an NRA First Team All-America in smallbore for the first time in his career following his selection to the second team in 2013 and 2012.
The senior captain was also among a select group of shooters named to the Lapua Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) All-American Teams that recognized the best overall shooters in the country based on selections off of aggregate averages. Todaro was an honorable mention in the combined scoring.
Matthews was named a Second Team All-America in smallbore by the NRA in earning his third certificate in this discipline after garnering first-team honors in 2013 and second team in 2012.
Calvin was awarded a Second Team All-America certificate in air rifle this year following his selection as a first-team NRA pick last year.
"To be selected for first-team honors is a nice way for Joseph (Todaro) to close out his career," said Wigger, who has led Army to 11 straight NCAA bids. "His selection for All-America honors in the new coaches' poll is also very impressive.
"To have the three seniors earn NRA honors in their last collegiate competition is not only notable but very deserving."
