WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army rifle team has a busy slate this weekend that starts Friday with a trip to Philadelphia, Pa., for an NRA Sectional match hosted by the University of the Sciences at the Colonel William Shea Rifle Range. On Sunday, the Black Knights host Jacksonville State and Ole Miss at Tronsrue Marksmanship Center.

In the latest College Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) weekly poll, which is based on the team's average of scores from matches at three different venues, the Black Knights are ranked No. 5, Jacksonville State is No. 6 and Ole Miss lists 11th.

Army (5-2) is in the midst of a three-match win streak following last weekend's 4648-4602 home victory over Ohio State. The Black Knights and Ole Miss are members of the Great America Rifle Conference, and Jacksonville State is in the Ohio Valley Conference. Army is 2-2 in the GARC with wins over No. 9 Memphis and No. 14 North Carolina State and losses to No. 1 West Virginia and No. 3 Kentucky.

The Black Knights will be looking for a strong performance at the Sectionals, which are held throughout the country between January and February. Army has fired its highest score of the season on the road posting a 4460 earlier this month in sweeping a triangular hosted by The Citadel. Two of the Black Knights' top three marks this season were on the road, while their highest score at home of 4658 is also their second highest of the season and was recorded against Memphis.

Army has shined of late in air rifle, posting its top two scores of the season during the winter portion of its schedule. The team's season-high 2351 recorded in a triangular sweep at The Citadel was just six points shy of the school record (2357) set in 2007. The Black Knights followed with a 2346 mark in last week's sweep of Ohio State. Juniors Richard Calvin and Michael Matthews have recorded Army's highest scores of the season registering a 593 and 592, respectively.

The Black Knights have excelled in smallbore the last few years, but have had their ups and downs this season. Army's highest mark of the season is a 2319 recorded against Murray State followed by a 2318 versus Memphis. Matthews has been Army's leader in recording the top four scores of the season with his highest mark a 588.

Ole Miss is coming off GARC wins over Memphis and North Carolina State while bowing to West Virginia, Kentucky and Nebraska. The Rebels close out their GARC slate against Army on Sunday after competing against Jacksonville State in a non-conference dual match at Tronsrue on Saturday. The Gamecocks are coming off a 4638-4609 win over Murray State last week.
