March 07, 2017 | Softball
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army Athletic Association has named Emily Ballesteros of the Army West Point softball team its Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.
The first-year infielder posted a 7-for-17 (.412 avg.) effort at George Mason's Patriot Classic with two doubles, a triple and six RBI. Ballesteros notched a hit in all five contests, including a pair of multi-hit games. That performance also earned her Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors.
Â
The softball team is currently on an 11-game winning streak, the second longest in program history.
Â
Ballesteros has been one of Army's best offensive weapons in the early portion of the season. She leads the Black Knights with five doubles, six extra-base hits, eight RBI, four multi-hit games and two multi-RBI efforts. The Chino Hills, Calif., native is currently riding an eight-game hitting streak, which is tied for the longest on the team this season with classmate, Lacey Swafford.
Â
The Black Knights continue their season March 10-18 when they head down to the Sunshine State for the second time this year to play 11 games at USF's Under Armour Showcase in Clearwater, Fla.
