Men's Lacrosse Concludes Season at Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The sixth-ranked Irish closed out the second quarter on a 5-0 run to expand their lead and topped the Army men's lacrosse team, 13-7, on a sunny Sunday afternoon at Arlotta Stadium.
Army (10-7) saw Jimbo Moore tally two goals for the top performance by Army. Luke Poulos, Shea Mullins, Connor Cook, Conor Glancy and David Symmes also tallied goals, while AJ Barretto finished the day with eight saves. Cole Johnson extended his point streak to 36 games with an assist in the final minutes.
Notre Dame (10-3) was led by Ryder Garnsey with six points on four goals and two assists, while Matt Kavanagh posted six points as well with two goals and four assists. Shane Doss earned the win with 10 saves.
The Irish struck first with the opening two goals, but the Black Knights answered with Moore scoring his 16th of the year to cut the lead to 2-1. Notre Dame followed Moore's goal with back-to-back tallies from Kavanagh and Mikey Wynne. Poulos finished the scoring in the opening frame with his sixth of the year after a nice individual effort and the Irish had a 4-2 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
Both teams went scoreless for the first 10 minutes of the second quarter, but Notre Dame turned it on in the final 5:21 with five scores. Kavanagh alone had a goal and three assists, while Garnsey posted two goals, and the Irish led 9-2 at the end of the 30 minutes.
Mullins stopped the Notre Dame run early in the third quarter with a great move. He picked up a ground ball and beat two Irish defenders and then Doss to cut the Notre Dame lead to 9-3. The Irish rebounded with goals by Pierre Byrne and Garnsey and they went into the fourth quarter with an 11-3 advantage.
The Irish extend their lead to 13-3 early in the fourth, but Army responded with four-straight to cut the lead down to 13-7 at the final whistle.
The Black Knights conclude their season with 10 wins for the second-consecutive season and third time under head coach Joe Alberici. Seniors Austin Schultz, Jimbo Moore, Shea Mullins, Tim Coll, Connor Cook, Sam Finney, Alex Daly, Luke Poulos and A.J. Canara played in their final game in an Army lacrosse uniform.
