Baseball Falls to Hartford in Extra Innings
May 07, 2016 | Baseball
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Black Knights dropped a 4-3 extra-inning affair to open the series at Hartford from Fiondella Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Black Knights (16-31) got on the board first with a two-run second inning, capped by a two-run single by Kris Lindner. A one-out walk by Matt Hudgins got the rally started, followed by a Trey Martin single. Greg Carter legged out an infield single to load the bases two batters later. Lindner's single through the right side plated Hudgins and Martin to give Army an early lead.
Hartford (29-13) managed to cut into the Army lead in the fifth inning. A one-out double by Aaron Wilson got things started for the Hawks, with a sacrifice fly to left two batters later by Chris DelDebbio scored the first run of the game for the home side. They would tie the game at two apiece in the sixth inning on a single by T.J. Ward.
In the bottom of the seventh, a leadoff double by Billy Walker looked threatening for Hartford. A single by Wilson to center sent Walker around third, but a perfect throw home by Jacob Page gunned down the potential game-winning run.
David Monge began the eighth inning for Army with a single. A pinch-hit single by senior Brock Davidson scored Monge from second two batters later to give the Black Knights a 3-2 lead.
Two walks began the bottom of the inning and proved costly for the Black Knights. An error tied the game at three apiece before a fielder's choice and another error gave the Hawks a walk-off victory.
