Golf Third, Sakata Named to All-Tournament Team

FINAL RESULTS
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After shooting five-under the final round of the Wofford Invitational, the Army West Point golf team placed moved up to third place with 855 strokes. Dean Sakata led the Black Knights with a seven-under score of 209 to place t-4th. He was one of five golfers name to the All-Tournament Team.
"The team was resilient today," said head coach Brian Watts. "The hole locations and weather conditions made the course play more difficult, but the team stayed patient. They played a great round of golf today as we had some bogeys early on, but they fought back and grinded it out. We are always working on staying calm and making good decisions and their patience was a good sign of maturity on the course. Dean had another great tournament. He played solid all weekend and kept a positive attitude. Dean was able to finish two-under today and seven-under for the tournament. We are looking forward to two more weeks of practice before the UConn event."
The team went nine-under with round totals of 289-283-283—855 and ranked as low as 11th.
Gardner-Webb clinched the invitational at 17-under. Host Wofford followed in second with 852 strokes.
Sakata continued to pace the Cadets through the final round. He finished tied for fourth with a total of 71-68-70—209 (-7). Sakata finished two-under on the last day and tallied two eagles and 15 birdies.
Marcus Plunkett placed t-8th and went one-under in the final round with five birdies. Through three rounds, he went four-under and totaled 70-71-71—212.
Justin Pagila finished t-23rd after totaling 217 strokes to finish one-over par. Matt Plunkett jumped two places to finish t-43rd with two eagles on his scorecards. Nick Turner also improved and totaled 79-73-71—223 (+7) to rank t-52th at the tournament.
The Black Knights return to action April 23-24 when they participate in the Till Duty is Done Collegiate Invitational in Storrs, Conn.
