Women’s Tennis Wins Close Match Versus Quinnipiac

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The result came down to the last match but the Army West Point women's tennis team kept up its winning ways with a 4-3 decision against Quinnipiac Friday night. The Black Knights have won their last four contests and stand at 11-3 this season while the Bobcats slip to 1-7.
Army swept doubles before Quinnipiac rallied to win three of the first five completed singles matches. Freshman Genevieve McCormick was put to the test in the fourth singles flight against Jennifer Lu and stood tall in a back-and-forth three set affair. McCormick ultimately won the match 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 to give the Cadets the win. She is now 7-5 in singles play this spring.
Senior Carolyn Pitman cracked the top 10 for career singles wins with a 6-2, 6-2 win in the top position. Her 67 career singles wins is tied with Kristin Beehler for tenth in school history.
Pitman remained perfect in doubles in 2016. Her and Kirby Einck won in the number two doubles spot to move to 8-0 as a duo. Pitman is now two doubles wins away from becoming just the second player for the academy to reach the century mark. Marissa Limsiaco is the only other with 114 career wins.
Einck also won her singles match by a score of 6-1, 6-0. She has won six straight matches to move to 8-3. The freshman has lost just two sets over that time.
The Black Knights will play host to Siena and Rhode Island tomorrow beginning at 9 a.m.
