Men’s Tennis Drops Match to NJIT

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's tennis team lost a tight match to NJIT on Friday evening. The Black Knights fell 4-3 to the Highlanders and fall to 5-5 on the year. NJIT now stands at 5-2 this season.
Army secured the doubles point with strong performances in the top two spots. Junior Grant Riechmann and senior Harrison McCormick teamed for a 6-3 victory while junior Sam Lampman returned to action for the first time since February 7 and paired with sophomore Michael Nguyen for a 6-2 win.
Nguyen and McCormick earned decisions in the Black Knights favor in the fourth and fifth singles positions, respectively. Nguyen won 6-1, 6-4 for his first singles victory in his last five matches (two losses, three unfinished) and McCormick won 6-4, 7-6.
David Mitchell brought his singles match into a third set. The freshman overcame a 6-3 first set loss to win 6-4 in the second set. NJIT's Jan Cimrman proved to be too much though as he prevailed with a 6-1 win in the final frame of the number two singles flight.
The Cadets will play their first doubleheader of the weekend tomorrow. One is at home against Rider while the other is at Flushing Meadows for a date with No. 52 St. John's.
