"Columbia is a very good team," head coach Matt Reid said. "Thanopoulos has a very good arm and he competed today. He was tough on us and we just couldn't find ways to get him off the field. He kept working ahead and getting us out. We will go back to work to get ready for Seton Hall."
Josh White hit a three-run home run, Trey Martin went 2-for-3 and Kris Lindner and Keenan Vega each added one base hit for Army.
Each starting pitcher working a 1-2-3 frame in the first inning before Columbia broke through with a pair of runs in the second. The Lions capitalized on a leadoff walk and a fielding error when shortstop Joe Engel tripled to the wall in right center off right-hander Daniel Burggraaf.
