Johnston, Polhamus Lead the Way at Presbyterian

CLINTON, S.C. – Six players netted multiple goals to help the Army West Point women's lacrosse team to a 16-3 win over Presbyterian in a nonconference contest on Monday afternoon at Martin Stadium.
Army snaps its two-game losing streak and improves to 4-3 on the year, while Presbyterian drops to 2-5.
Sophomore Amy Johnston scored a hat trick and added a pair of assists, while freshman Nikki Polhamus also found the back of the net three times and tallied one assist. Junior Erin Jollota, sophomore Rachel Hornick and freshmen Manuela Cortes and Kelsea Krauss all scored twice, with Krauss also contributing two assists.
Sophomore Kristen McCarty and freshman Peyton Fancher each finished with a goal to mark the first of the season for both players. Freshman Kayla Rowley stopped three shots to collect her fourth win of the year.
Johnston got the scoring started with a marker just 30 seconds into the contest before Polhamus scored 2:00 later to double Army's early advantage.
Presbyterian responded with a goal from Claire Frase at the 27:23 mark of the first half before the visitors scored six straight during the final 26:04 of the half to give Army an 8-1 lead at halftime. Cortes and Johnston each found the back of the net twice during the 6-0 run.
Frase added her second tally of the afternoon 47 seconds into the second period to bring the score to 8-2 before the Blue Hose cut the deficit to five, 8-3, after an unassisted goal from Jess Goergen at the 27:40 mark.
The Black Knights closed the contest with eight goals over a span of 21:08, with Krauss and Polhamus each tallying a pair during the stretch.
Army makes the trip back north for its Patriot League opener, as the Black Knights face Lafayette on Saturday, March 19 at 3:30 p.m. at Michie Stadium.
