CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Army West Point softball team lost a tough 4-3 battle to South Dakota Saturday morning at the Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex. The Black Knights forced the game into extra innings, but the Coyotes came after tagging up on a sacrifice hit to left field.
Neither team was able to convert a run in the first inning. The Coyotes (4-21) were in scoring position with a girl on first and second with no outs, but a double play by Kasey McCravey kept South Dakota out of contention.
Three up, three down by the Coyotes in the top of the second denied Army (9-9) from any scoring chances.
In the top of the third with two outs, the Black Knights loaded the bases with a chance to score. The Coyotes denied the chance however with a strikeout to close-out the inning.

The Coyotes bounced back in the home half of the inning fueled by a two-run single up the middle tying the score at 2-2. Army and South Dakota denied the other from scoring chances in the next two innings to push the game into extra innings.
Hailey Megge was placed at second as the pinch runner under the international tie breaker rule in the top of the eighth. The Black Knights nor the Coyotes could tally a run in the eighth however and pushed the game into the ninth.
Still under international tie breaker rules, Michaela Hoover was put onto second. Carrie Reilly pinch hit to lead-off the inning and notched a sacrifice bunt advancing Hoover to second.
Mae Wadyka stroked a one-run single to center field to put Army up 3-2 in the game. The Coyotes had two more outs to keep the score at 3-2 in favor of Army with one last at-bat.
