Women’s Tennis Crushes Fairleigh Dickinson

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Little opposition was provided by Fairleigh Dickinson when facing the Army West Point women's tennis team on Friday evening. The Black Knights won 7-0 to improve to 6-2 on the year. It was the first match of the year for the Knights as they slip to 0-1.
Army lost only one set. Rugile Valuniate battled with Nicole Chis in the top singles position. The two went into a third set where the Cadets' freshman pulled out a 6-2, 3-6, 10-7 victory. It was the second victory in Valuniate's last three matches and the fifth straight time she has played into a third set.
Sophomore Bridget Guenard won her fifth straight singles contest. She was victorious by retirement against Shreya Pasricha in the fifth slot. The Elk Grove, Calif., native is now 6-1 in the spring.
Senior Carolyn Pitman remained undefeated in doubles play. She paired with Kirby Einck in the second doubles position for a 6-2 conquest. Einck, who is 4-0 with Pitman, has won four consecutive doubles matches and is now 7-1 on the year in doubles.
The Black Knights return to the court tomorrow for a doubleheader against Hartford and Rutgers. The Hawks are 0-1 on the season while the Scarlet Knights possess a 2-2 record.
