Softball Falls to UC Riverside in Five

Trailing 1-0 after the first inning, the Black Knights (1-5) erased that deficit behind Nena Riccoboni's two-run single with bases loaded down the right field line in the top of the second inning to pull ahead 2-1. Riccoboni drove in Caroline Smith and Gladys Esparza-Gallegos who reached on a single and walk.
UC Riverside (4-4) exploded for 10 runs on nine hits keyed by Ploesch's two-run double in the home half of the second to take a 11-2 lead putting the game out of reach for the Black Knights.
The Black Knights had a late rally where they scored a run at the top of the fourth on an RBI single by Kasey McCravey, but UC Riverside's defense shut them down the rest of the game to force the game to be call after five innings on the eight-run rule.
Riccoboni led the Black Knights with two RBIs in the game, while McCravey tallied one. Mae Wadyka and McCravey each had two hits, and Caroline smith and Riccoboni had one a piece.
The Black Knights will face Cal Poly (9 p.m. (ET)) and Loyola-Marymount (11:30 p.m. (ET)) for the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic at the Big League Dream Complex in Cathedral City, Calif., Friday.
Army will be back in action on Saturday with a game versus the Razorbacks at 3 p.m. (ET) and one opposite the Wolverines at 8 p.m. (ET), also at the Big League Dream Complex. All games at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic will be streamed for fans by FloSoftball for a small fee.
