Late Rally Pushes Colonels Past Softball

WILMINGTON, N.C. – A three-run homer in the top of the seventh lifted Eastern Kentucky to a 4-3 win over Army West Point in closing out first day competition at the Seahawk Softball Bash Friday evening.
Kristen McPeek led Army with two RBIs on a solo hit as Emily Gray also chipped in offensively with an RBI. Kasey McCravey had a team-high two hits and added a run, while Mae Wadyka and Ashley Yoo had one run a piece.

The Black Knights denied Eastern Kentucky from scoring during its first at bat. The Colonels took a 1-0 lead at the top of the second, but the Black Knights erased that with a two-run third with McPeek knockikng in both with a single as Army collected three hits in that inning. Emily Gray's RBI single in the top of the fifth padded Army's lead to 3-1.

A homerun by the Colonels at the top of the seventh boosted them to take a 4-3 lead over the Black Knights. Caroline Smith entered the game to close-out the seventh. After Eastern Kentucky went ahead in the top of the seventh, Haley Flynn denied Army in the home half retiring the side with a pair of strikeouts and an infield groundout.

Army now resides at 0-2 on the season and returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 13, for two games. The Black Knights will be back on the field against host UNC Wilmington at 11 a.m., and due to weather concerns the second game against Eastern Kentucky will be TBA.
