Women’s Basketball Races Past Air Force

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's basketball team took a 5-4 advantage 4:40 into the opening quarter and didn't look back in an eventual 75-47 victory over Air Force on Wednesday night at Christl Arena.
Army wins its second in a row to improve to 3-1, while Air Force remains winless, falling to 0-4.
Sophomore Madison Hovren matched career highs of 22 points and nine rebounds and scored 18 of her 22 points in the second half. Junior Destinee Morris also tallied a career best with 17 points off the bench.
Junior Margaret Anne Hubbell added a career-best nine points off the bench and classmate Lena' Hicks finished with seven points and five rebounds.
Erika Chapman and Mariah Forde led Air Force with nine points apiece.

KEY MOMENT
- Hovren scored the first nine points of the second half for the Cadets during a 9-2 run that extended the hosts' lead to 21, 39-18. Hovren also registered two steals in the early goings of the third quarter to give Army a comfortable advantage that led to the 28-point victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Air Force led 4-3 early, but Army finished the first quarter on a 10-3 run to command a 13-7 advantage at the end of one.
- The Black Knights outscored the Falcons 17-9 during the second quarter alone, as the hosts led, 30-16, at halftime.
- Morris led all scorers with eight points during the second frame, including three-pointers at the 8:07 and 7:17 marks.
- The Cadets came up with four steals in the second quarter, with Morris accounting for two and McNeal adding two more.
- Hovren opened the third quarter on a personal 9-2 run that gave the Black Knights a 39-18 lead.
- Hovren scored 16 of Army's 26 points in the third period, after netting just four points in the entire first half. Army led, 56-29, after three.
- The Cadets didn't allow their lead to slip below 22 points in the fourth quarter and eventually led by as many as 30.
- Army extended its lead to 50-24 after a three from Destinee Morris with 4:30 on the clock in the third quarter.
