WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's tennis team improved to 3-0 today with a victory against Seton Hall. It was the Black Knights third match in the last two days while the Pirates competed in their first event of the season.
Army was without a number of its players due to fatigue from the previous day's events. The likes of Kirby Einck, Nancy Porter, and Gabriella Spindler all stepped up as each won their singles matches while also winning in doubles.
Einck, competing in the third singles position, cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 win for the freshman's first career singles win in a dual match. This was after teaming with Carolyn Pitman in the second doubles slot for a hard fought 7-6 (7-5) win. Einck has won all three of her doubles matches to open the spring year.
Porter and Spindler started the day together on the same court with a dominant 6-0 victory in number three doubles. Spindler lost the opening set of her singles match 1-6 against Katie Kim before coming out victorious 7-5 in the second frame and 6-2 in the final set of the number four singles match. Porter singles victory was much less dramatic, winning 6-1, 6-0 in the sixth singles position. The two Cadets are each 2-0 in singles play this season.
The Black Knights will have a few days off before returning to action on Friday, February 5, against Stony Brook. Army and the Seawolves are scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. in what will be the first match of the season for Stony Brook.
