Men’s Track Completes Day Two at Penn State

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The Army West Point men's track and field team completed the second and final day of action from the Penn State National Invitiational from the Horace on Saturday.
"We really wanted to set ourselves up for next weekend, so I was hoping that we would have some seasonal bests and wins our flights and heats," said Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Mike Smith. "I saw a lot of that. Our athletes are learning how to rise to a higher standard. We need to keep challenging them."
The 1000-meter run was the strong suit for the Black Knights as freshman Ben Boswell finished runner-up with a time of 2:28.15. Senior Mitch Dutton also placed fourth in the invitational heat of the event with a time of 2:25.71.
Army continued to excel in the distance events throughout the day as Trevor Touchton placed fourth of 27 competitors in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:51.99. Team co-captain Tom Girardot also finished eighth in the mine with a time of 4:18.81.
Additionally, Jose Santana placed 10th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.15.
The Black Knights return to action next Saturday, Feb. 6, as they travel to Annapolis, Md., for the Navy dual meet. The meet will start at 11 a.m.
