BURLINGTON, Iowa – The Army West Point golf team completed the Golfweek Conference Challenge Sunday afternoon at the Spirit Hallow Golf Course in Burlington, Iowa. The Black Knights finished 36-over with daily totals of 304-291-305—900.
"We had some great runs today with great numbers, but there were too many big mistakes that cost us," said head coach Brian Watts. "The Golfweek Conference Challenge was good preparation for the tough competition at Navy next weekend and we are excited to get back on the course."
Marcus Plunkett placed tied for 25th, highest of the Black Knights at one-over with scores of 72-71-74—217. Dean Sakata was Army's second-best finisher tieing for 38th after carding 75-70-75—220 (+4. Nick Turner followed with 231 strokes to tie for 66th, while Matt Plunkett tallied 234 strokes to rank T70.
Host Iowa won the challenge at 22-under par. North Carolina State was the next-best team at 19-under and were closely followed by Idaho at 18-under.
The Cadets will be back in action Oct. 3-4 when they travel to Annapolis, Md., for the annual Star Match against Navy.
