PL Announces Golf 25th Anniversary Team

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Patriot League Men's Golf 25th Anniversary Team was announced on Friday as Army West Point led the way with eight selections including alumnae Pat Mullin, Cullen Barbato, Matt Krembel, John Lyons, Trey Owens and Mike Sessa. The list also included two current players in Marcus Plunkett and Peter Kim.

The team members are listed below by school, with seasons designating each player's years of competition within the Patriot League. Each school that participates in men's golf selected 25 players in the voting for the 25th Anniversary Team, and could not vote for its own student-athletes.

Twenty members of the Anniversary Team have won the individual title at the Patriot League Men's Golf Championship, with Waddell claiming the trophy twice. Nine members also appeared on the Patriot League All-Decade Team (1990-00), and the Anniversary Team members have combined to earn 71 All-Patriot League honors. Twenty Patriot League championship winning teams featured at least one Anniversary Team member on the squad.

The Patriot League is releasing 25th Anniversary Teams throughout the month of August for each sport that has been sponsored by the League since it became an all-sport conference beginning in the 1990-91 season. In addition to the 25th Anniversary Teams, coverage throughout the 2015-16 season will focus on former student-athletes and top stories in the history of the Patriot League.

Cullen Barbato, Army West Point (1992-96) – Barbato won the Patriot League Golfer of the Year award as a senior in 1995 and was named to the All-League Team three times: in the spring and fall in 1994 as well as 1995. Army West Point won the Patriot League title in all four of his seasons and had a pair of NCAA Regional apperances in his tenure, and Barbato made the Patriot League All-Decade Team.

Andrew Cohen, Bucknell (2006-10) – Cohen had an accomplished career that was highlighted by the Patriot League Golfer of the Year honor in 2009 and the League's Co-Rookie of the Year award in 2007 while helping Bucknell to the League title and NCAA Regional berths each season. His winning score of 208 in 2009 remains the Patriot League Championship record as Cohen shot rounds of 71-68-69. He made the All-Patriot League Team in each of his four seasons, with second-team honors in 2008 and 2010 to go with the first-team nods in 2007 and 2009, and finished in the top six at three of his four League championships.

Brian Crum, Navy (1999-03) – Crum concluded his career by winning the Patriot League Golfer of the Year honor in 2003, with his individual title helping Navy to the Patriot League crown. He also earned the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year award that season. Crum earned first-team All-League status in his final two seasons and competed on Navy teams that won back-to-back titles in 2000-01 as well as 2003 and earned NCAA Regional berths each year.

Matt Czarnecki, Holy Cross (2004-08) – Czarnecki became the only student-athlete from Holy Cross to win the individual title at the Patriot League Championship in 2007, earning the League's Golfer of the Year award in the process. He claimed first-team All-League honors that season and earned second-team All-League status in both 2005 and 2008.

Henry D'Alberto, Lehigh (1993-97) – D'Alberto was a standout throughout his career at Lehigh, and made the first-team All-Patriot League squad in each of his four seasons. He led Lehigh to the first of consecutive League titles as a senior in 1996 by winning the individual crown at the League Championship, and was named to the Patriot League All-Decade Team. D'Alberto is now the head coach of the Mountain Hawks, and led Lehigh to the 2013 Patriot League title while earning the League's Coach of the Year award.

Ryan Dranginis, Navy (1996-00) – Dranginis earned first-team All-Patriot League status three times, doing so in consecutive seasons from 1996-97 and again as a senior in 2000. He helped Navy to its first two League titles and NCAA Regional berths consecutively in 1998 and 2000.

Rick Gregson, Colgate (1990-94) – Gregson concluded his career by winning the Patriot League Golfer of the Year award with the individual title at the 1994 (Spring) League Championship. He made the first-team All-Patriot League squad in each of his final three seasons, and was honored with a spot on the League's All-Decade Team.

Billy Hurley, Navy (2000-04) – Hurley had an outstanding career that was capped by winning the Patriot League Golfer of the Year award as the individual champion of the Patriot League in 2004. He earned first-team All-League status in each of his four seasons, and helped lead Navy to the League title and NCAA Regional berths in both 2001 and 2003. Hurley also made the NCAA Regionals as an individual in 2004 and posted a 14th-place finish. In addition, his senior season included the Patriot League Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, Honorable Mention All-America honors and second-team Academic All-America honors. Hurley enjoyed a strong amateur career including an appearance in the 2005 Walker Cup and 2004 Palmer Cup. Hurley served his military commitment, then began his professional career and is now playing on the PGA Tour.

Timothy Johnson, Lehigh (1995-99) – Johnson earned first-team All-Patriot League status three times, doing so consecutively from 1995-96 and again in 1998. His performance helped the Mountain Hawks to consecutive League titles in 1996 and 1997.

Peter Kim, Army West Point (2013-present) – Kim has enjoyed an outstanding start to his career at Army West Point in his first two seasons. He won the individual title at the 2014 League Championship to capture both Golfer of the Year and Rookie of the Year honors, and finished 31st at the NCAA Regionals that season. Kim has made the All-Patriot League Team in both of his seasons, earning second-team status last year. He enters his junior season in 2015-16.

Matt Krembel, Army West Point (2007-11) – Krembel earned All-Patriot League honors in all four of his seasons, with first-team selections in both 2009 and 2011. He won the individual title at the Patriot League Championship in his final season to claim the Golfer of the Year award and lead Army West Point to the overall team title.

Pete Lauder, Navy (1996-00) – Lauder's career was highlighted by winning the individual title at the 1998 Patriot League Championship, earning the Golfer of the Year honor and leading Navy to the first of consecutive League titles and NCAA Regional berths. Lauder was named as a member of the Patriot League All-Decade Team.

John Lyons, Army West Point (1990-92) – Lyons competed in the first two seasons of the Patriot League, and led Army West Point to the League title both times. He won the Patriot League Golfer of the Year award as the individual champion in 1992, and competed with the Black Knights at the NCAA Regionals in both 1991 and 1992. Lyons was also named to the Patriot League All-Decade Team.

Pat Mullin, Army West Point (1990-91) – Mullin won the first Patriot League Golfer of the Year award by claiming the individual title at the inaugural League Championship in 1991, and also helped Army West Point to the first of its six consecutive League crowns. He also made two appearances in the NCAA Regionals, and is a member of the Patriot League All-Decade Team.

Bowen Osborn, Lehigh (1998-02) – Osborn had an outstanding career where he was named to the first-team All-Patriot League squad in each of his four seasons, and earned the League's Golfer of the Year honor with the individual title at the League Championship in 2001.

Matt Oshrine, Loyola (2013-15) – Oshrine enjoyed an outstanding two years at Loyola, leading the Greyhounds to the Patriot League title each season and claiming the League's Golfer of the Year award as the individual champion in 2015. He earned first-team All-League honors each season after tying for third at the League Championship in 2014. Oshrine won a League record five Golfer of the Month awards in his two seasons, including all four honors in 2014-15.

Tyler Ostrovsky, Lafayette (2007-11) – Ostrovsky had a standout four seasons for the Leopards as he made the All-Patriot League Team four times, including a first-team honor in 2009. He helped Lafayette to its lone League title in 2010 and a berth in the NCAA Regionals.

Trey Owen, Army West Point (1990-94) – Owen had great success in his four seasons at Army West Point, helping the Black Knights win the Patriot League title each year. He won the Patriot League Golfer of the Year honor as the individual champion in 1993, and earned first-team All-League status in each of his final three years. He helped the Black Knights to NCAA Regional appearances from 1991-93, and was also named to the Patriot League All-Decade Team.

Marcus Plunkett, Army West Point (2012-present) – Plunkett heads into his senior season in 2015-16 after three strong years for the Black Knights. He has made the All-Patriot League Team three times with first-team honors in 2013 and 2015, and was named the League's Rookie of the Year in the former with top-three finishes each of the two years.

Rob Robertson, Lafayette (2008-11) – Robertson won the Patriot League Golfer of the Year award by claiming the individual title in 2010, and in the process led Lafayette to its lone League title and berth in the NCAA Regionals. He added a second-team All-Patriot League selection as a senior in 2011.

Erich Schoen, Navy (2004-08) – Schoen won the individual title at the 2008 Patriot League Championship to claim the Golfer of the Year honor and lead Navy to the League title and an NCAA Regional berth.

Mike Sessa, Army West Point (1992-96) – Sessa earned the Patriot League Golfer of the Year award for winning the individual title at the 1994 (Fall) League Championship, and helped Army West Point win the League title in all four of his seasons by earning first-team All-League honors three times. Sessa has the only hole-in-one at the Patriot League Championship. He was named to the Patriot League All-Decade Team and made two NCAA Regional appearances with the Black Knights.

Charlie Waddell, Bucknell (2003-07) – Waddell is the only two-time winner of the individual title at the Patriot League Championship, doing so in 2005 and 2006 to claim the Golfer of the Year honor. Waddell made the first-team All-Patriot League squad in all four of his seasons, and never finished lower than sixth at the League Championship. He led Bucknell to consecutive League titles and NCAA Regional berths as a junior and senior in 2006 and 2007.Â

Aaron Wright, Navy (1994-98) – Wright earned first-team All-League honors in each of his four seasons, and capped his career as the individual medalist at the League Championship and the Golfer of the Year honoree in 1997. Wright is also a member of the Patriot League All-Decade Team.

Eli Zackheim, Colgate (1997-01) – Zackheim earned first-team All-Patriot League status in each of his final three seasons, and also excelled in the classroom by winning the League's Scholar-Athlete of the Year award three times. He added Academic All-America status as a senior in 2001.
