PL Announces Men's Cross Country 25th Anniversary Team

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Patriot League Men's Cross Country 25th Anniversary Team was announced on Friday with seven schools represented, led by Army West Point with eight honorees while American and Bucknell each notched four apiece.

The team members are listed below by school, with seasons representing the years of competition within the Patriot League. Each school that participates in men's cross country selected 25 players in the voting for the 25th Anniversary Team, and could not vote for its own student-athletes.

The honorees have combined to win 24 individual titles at the Patriot League Men's Cross Country Championship, with 16 different winners of the event. Four of the honorees earned All-America recognition, while the group has totaled 59 All-Patriot League spots. Twenty-three teams which won the Patriot League title featured at least one member of the 25th Anniversary Team.

The Patriot League is releasing 25th Anniversary Teams throughout the month of August for each sport that has been sponsored by the League since it became an all-sport conference beginning in the 1990-91 season. In addition to the 25th Anniversary Teams, coverage throughout the 2015-16 season will focus on former student-athletes and top stories in the history of the Patriot League.

Ray Appenheimer, Colgate (1990-93) – Appenheimer had a decorated career that included individual titles at the Patriot League Championship in both 1992 and 1993 as well as All-America recognition both years. He finished 40th at the NCAA Championship in 1992 before a seventh-place showing in 1993, which stands as the top mark in Patriot League history. Appenheimer is one of two Patriot Leaguers to earn two-time All-America status, and also earned Academic All-America recognition twice with a second-team honor in 1992 and first-team in 1993. He went on to earn the Patriot League Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year award for both the 1992-93 and 1993-94 seasons.

Michael Baskin, Army West Point (1998-01) – Baskin was an All-Patriot League honoree in his final three years at Army West Point, with the Black Knights winning the Patriot League title in his junior and senior campaigns. He was also a two-time Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Norbert Berenyi, Bucknell (1990) – In his only season in the Patriot League, Berenyi led Bucknell to the inaugural League title in 1990 by winning the individual medal at the League Championship.

Mike Bernstein, Army West Point (1991-94) – Bernstein concluded his career by winning the Patriot League individual title in 1994 and also earning his second straight All-America nod that season. He finished in the top 50 at the NCAA Championship in both 1993 and 1994 to earn the All-America honors, and is one of two Patriot Leaguers to earn two-time All-America status. Bernstein led Army West Point to the Patriot League title in his final two seasons and earned first-team All-League honors both years.

David Bronfenbrenner, Bucknell (1996-99) – Bronfenbrenner was a three-time All-Patriot League selection who won the individual title at the League Championship in 1999. He helped Bucknell to the overall team title in each of his final three seasons while earning the All-Patriot League recognition.

Dan Browne, Army West Point (1993-96) – Browne won the individual title at the Patriot League Championship in both 1995 and 1996, leading Army West Point to the overall team crown each time. The Black Knights won the team title in all four of his seasons, and Browne earned first-team All-Patriot League recognition three times.

Matt Deardorff, Bucknell (1990-91) – Deardorff was a standout in his two seasons in the Patriot League, earning All-League honors each time and winning the individual title at the League Championship in 1991. He helped the Bison win the League title in each of his seasons, and placed 60th at the NCAA Championship in 1991 as Bucknell finished in 13th as a team. Deardorff also earned first-team Academic All-America honors in each of his two years in the Patriot League.

Brendan Fennell, American (2004-07) – Fennell won back-to-back Patriot League titles in 2006 and 2007, and earned first-team All-Patriot League honors in all four of his seasons. He is one of only four people to claim All-Patriot League status in all four seasons of competition. Fennell also led the Eagles to the Patriot League title in all four of his seasons and an NCAA berth as a team in three straight years from 2004-06. He notched the team's top finish at the NCAA Championship in both 2005 and 2006 before qualifying as an individual in 2007.

Scott Goff, Army West Point (1995-98) – Goff had success throughout his tenure for the Black Knights, earning first-team All-Patriot League status in each of his four seasons and winning the Patriot League individual title as a junior and senior. He capped his career with an All-America nod in 1998 as he finished in 23rd place at the NCAA Championship. Goff helped lead Army West Point to Patriot League titles as a freshman and sophomore and runner-up finishes as a junior and senior.

Steve Hallinan, American (2004-07) – Hallinan won the Patriot League individual title in 2005 and was a first-team All-League selection as a freshman and sophomore and again as a senior. He ran on teams that won the Patriot League in all four of his seasons, and the Eagles advanced to the NCAA Championship as a team from 2004-06.

Andrew Hanko, Navy (2007-10) – Hanko won the individual title at the Patriot League Championship in both his junior and senior season, and earned first-team All-Patriot League status in three straight years from 2008-10 while leading the Mids to the overall team title each time. He qualified for the NCAA Championship as a senior and placed 119th in the race.

Michael Hanlon, Colgate (2003-06) – Hanlon earned first-team All-Patriot League status in three consecutive seasons from 2004-06. He also qualified for the NCAA Championship in 2005 with a 121st-place finish.

Chris Johnson, Colgate (2009-12) – Johnson won the individual title at the Patriot League Championship in both his junior and senior seasons, and earned All-Patriot League honors in his final three years for the Raiders. He ran at the NCAA Championship in 2011 with a 115th-place showing.

Bryan Johnston, Bucknell (1999-02) – Johnson won the individual title at the Patriot League Championship as a senior in 2002 and earned first-team All-League honors in his final two years. He also earned the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year award as a senior and was named a second-team Academic All-American.

Evans Kosgei, Lehigh (2008-11) – Kosgei is one of four student-athletes to earn All-Patriot League status in each of his four seasons, with first-team honors over the last three years. He was also selected as the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year in both 2009 and 2011, and finished 112th at the NCAA Championship in 2010.

Pat MacAdie, American (2001-04) – MacAdie won the individual title at the Patriot League Championship in both 2003 and 2004, and led the Eagles to the team title each season. He also earned first-team All-Patriot League honors as American won its first crown in his sophomore campaign in 2002. MacAdie finished 55th at the NCAA Championship in 2004 as he helped the Eagles to a 20th-place showing as a team.

Ryan Mahalsky, Lehigh (2011-14) – Mahalsky closed out a strong career last fall by placing 46th at the NCAA Championship, the highest finish in school history and the best mark for a Patriot Leaguer since 1998. He earned first-team All-Patriot League honors in his final three seasons, helping the Mountain Hawks to the League title in 2012 and a runner-up finish in 2013.

Tyler Mueller, Lehigh (2010-13) – Mueller won the Patriot League individual title as a senior in 2013 and also qualified for the NCAA Championship where he posted a 67th-place showing. He earned first-team All-Patriot League honors in his final two years, leading Lehigh to its lone Patriot League title in 2012 before a close runner-up finish for the Mountain Hawks in 2013.

David Robinson, Lafayette (1994-97) – Robinson earned first-team All-Patriot League honors in three consecutive seasons from 1995-97.

Michael Ross, Army West Point (1995-98) – Ross earned All-Patriot League status in each of his four seasons, helping Army West Point win the League title in 1995 and 1996 and earn runner-up finishes in 1997 and 1998. He is one of four student-athletes to earn four All-Patriot League honors in a career.

Steve Schroeder, Navy (2012-present) – Schroeder won the Patriot League individual title in 2014 while leading Navy to its second consecutive team crown. He went on to finish 182nd in last year's NCAA Championship and prepares to run his senior season at Navy in 2015. Schroeder is the only active member of the Patriot League Men's Cross Country 25th Anniversary Team.

Matt Seymour, American (2001-03) – Seymour was a first-team All-Patriot League selection in each of his three seasons in the conference, and helped the Eagles to the League title in both 2002 and 2003.

Jason Stewart, Army West Point (1990-93) – Stewart was an All-Patriot League honoree and All-American in 1993. He helped the Black Knights win their first League title, then placed 21st at the NCAA Championship as Army West Point came in sixth in the team standings.

Josh Stubbs, Army West Point (1993-96) – Stubbs earned All-Patriot League honors in his final three seasons for the Black Knights, and helped Army West Point to the League title in each of his four years at the school.

Will Wyche, Army West Point (1998-01) – Wyche led Army West Point to consecutive titles as a junior and senior as he won the individual medal at the Patriot League Championship in both 2000 and 2001. Wyche also made the All-Patriot League squad in 1999 to finish as a three-time selection.
