Getting to Know: Carolyn Pitman
August 07, 2015 | Women's Tennis
Each weekday this summer a new cadet-athlete will be featured in Getting to Know, a Q&A series where Army West Point fans can read about their favorite players.
NAME: Carolyn C. G. Pitman
HOMETOWN: West Chester, OH
MAJOR:Â Civil Engineering
DESCRIBE YOUR HEAD COACH:Â A tough, sometimes scary, and genuine man who I see as a second father to me because he is always looking out for us and our best interests.
WHO IS YOUR ROLE MODEL AND WHY:Â It is a three way tie between Jamilla Paul, my grandmother Nana and my dad. Jams because she was always there for me in every way shape and form, and she taught me so much about myself and what to look forward to in regards to tennis. Nana because she was the main woman who showed me how to be the best person possible and had also taught me about what true beauty is within each person as well as that even though there is some darkness in each of us, there is always at least a small part of goodness too. My daddy is too because he was the one who raised me. He was my mom and dad while I was growing up. He was the one who taught me most of what I know today and is the one that resembles and made me who I am today.
GREATEST ATHLETE ON EARTH TODAY IS: Novak Jokovic and Rafael Nadal
FAVORITE ARMY WEST POINT TEAM OTHER THAN YOUR OWN: Women's Volleyball
FAVORITE VENUE TO PLAY IN:Â Indoor Courts
OPPONENT MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO PLAYING: Navy
WHAT TEAM NOT ON YOUR SCHEDULE WOULD YOU LIKE TO PLAY AND WHY: University of Akron because my coach from my childhood is now the coach there and I would be able to see him for the first time in 6 years
HOW ARE YOU SPENDING YOUR SUMMER: I have CLDT 2 first block, and then will be traveling west with my family to see the rest of the US and then in the third block I will be flying to Camp Humphreys in Korea for CTLT.
ON MY TEAM, I AM THE BEST… Fighter or Scariest person to play
FAVORITE MEAL:Â Grilled Cheese and any kind of potato
IF YOU COULD GO ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, WHERE WOULD YOU GO:Â Pompeii or anywhere in Italy or Germany
FAVORITE WARMUP SONG: Centuries
BIGGEST NIGHTMARE:Â Not having a family of my own or losing those I love
FAVORITE PART OF WEST POINT:Â The spectacular view and structure of our daily schedules
DESCRIBE ARMY WEST POINT TENNIS:Â We are a chaotic, dysfunctional, and caring family
FAVORITE TV SHOW GROWING UP:Â Rugrats
MOST MEMORABLE ATHLETIC MOMENT: In high school I was a guard on the Varsity team and my team was tied with 2 seconds to go in the last half. My teammate was shooting a free throw and had missed the basket. I was able to snatch it from the other team and put it up for two. My team, me and the audience all rushed onto the court in celebration to our win. However, little did all of us know…my coach had called timeout right before I had officially made the basket; driving us into overtime. It was definitely one of those "Need to get away moments?" for my coach. But we ended up winning the game the long and hard way.
HOW ARE YOU IMPROVING YOUR GAME IN THE OFFSEASON:Â I plan to improve my consistency and I also plan on learning how to control my "serial killer side" and transform it into a "Dexter mindset" (as coach puts it).
WHAT PLAYER WILL SURPRISE PEOPLE NEXT SEASON:Â I think the incoming freshmen will because no one will know what to expect and I am very excited to see them give it their all.
WHO IS THE STRONGEST PLAYER ON YOUR TEAM: Strength wise I would definitely have to say Eva or Haley
WHO IS THE MOST ENTERTAINING PLAYER ON YOUR TEAM: I would definitely have to say it is a tie between my doubles partner Jules and Allyson. With Jules she just cracks me up with how she acts beside me or towards me and with Allyson, heck I never know what she's going to say, but regardless of if it is good or bad there will always be a laugh to follow from those listening.
WHICH TEAMMATE IS MOST LIKLEY TO BECOME A GENERAL: Eva Sung
ADVICE FOR INCOMING PLEBE TEAMMATES:Â Do not be scared, stay mentally, physically and emotionally tough, speak up against things you do not like (confront), and remain optimistic! Just know that all of us want you to be a part of this team and are excited to see what you have to offer on and off the court.
