Army West Point Athletics
Getting to Know: Bryce Barnes
July 09, 2015 | Wrestling
NAME: Bryce Marshall Lee Barnes
HOMETOWN: Virginia Beach, Va.
MAJOR: Systems Engineering  Â
DESCRIBE YOUR HEAD COACH:Â A passionate leader, unwavered by low expectations. He always believes in me more than I believe in myself. That's special to have a man like that in your corner.
WHO IS YOUR ROLE MODEL AND WHY:Â My Dad. He is a caring and compassionate father, but also a dedicated business man who, he won't tell you, but is an amazing philanthropist. He always attests a lot of who he is to VMI. That's one of the big factors that brought me to West Point; to be more like my dad.
Â
GREATEST ATHLETE ON EARTH TODAY IS: LeBron James. The guy literally takes team from bottom to top. Not only is he a fantastic player, but his leadership is what elevates the teams he is on.
FAVORITE ARMY WEST POINT TEAM OTHER THAN YOUR OWN: That's a hard question! Being in systems we do a lot of group projects and we all develop certain bonds with all different kinds of people. Whether it's getting updates on my phone about my good friend James "Jimbo" "Gator" Moore on the Army lacrosse team, or cheering on my other project partner Matt Gianchinta at Michie, I always love to support all the Army teams.
FAVORITE VENUE TO PLAY IN:Â U Penn. That huge board is always fun to look up at and see myself.
WHAT TEAM NOT ON YOUR SCHEDULE WOULD YOU LIKE TO PLAY AND WHY: Iowa, just to get a shot at facing a top 5 team.
HOW ARE YOU SPENDING YOUR SUMMER: CLDT and Beast 2 Platoon Leader
ON MY TEAM, I AM THE BEST… Funker. It's a debatable title but since Colman Gracey is gone, I get to take the title. (Funk is a style of wrestling where unorthodox moves that are considered dangerous are done. Most moves don't have names, but more so are actions taken. It requires a ton of flexibility)
FAVORITE MEAL: Â Breakfast
IF YOU COULD GO ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, WHERE WOULD YOU GO:Â Home. There's no place like the beach.
FAVORITE WARMUP SONG: Your hand in mine – Explosions in the Sky
BIGGEST NIGHTMARE: Selling myself short
FAVORITE PART OF WEST POINT:Â Cullum Hall. The priceless paintings of the civil war generals, and the KIA plaques remind me of those who came before me, what they gave, and all of our inevitable mortality.
FAVORITE TV SHOW GROWING UP: Duck Tales!
MOST MEMORABLE ATHLETIC MOMENT: Winning the state championship and hugging my disabled uncle
HOW ARE YOU IMPROVING YOUR GAME IN THE OFFSEASON: Lots of lifting and I'm staying here for a lot of the summer so Coach Ward and I can work on cleaning up my wrestling.
WHAT PLAYER WILL SURPRISE PEOPLE NEXT SEASON:Â Austin Wilding. The guy is the toughest person I've ever had to deal with on top, bar none. He will turn heads next year.
WHO IS THE STRONGEST PLAYER ON YOUR TEAM: Russell Parsons
WHO IS THE MOST ENTERTAINING PLAYER ON YOUR TEAM: Logan Everett. The kid has some great jokes and an even better attitude.
Â
WHICH TEAMMATE IS MOST LIKLEY TO BECOME A GENERAL: Jack Wedholm…a.k.a General Jack
ADVICE FOR INCOMING PLEBE TEAMMATES: Relax and remember, "This too shall pass"
FAVORITE PERSON TO FOLLOW ON TWITTER:Â I actually don't have a twitter, but if I did, id follow my drill partner Tyler Mclees
