Army West Point Athletics

Getting to Know: Taler Brazell
July 17, 2015 | Women's Tennis
Each weekday this summer a new cadet-athlete will be featured in Getting to Know, a Q&A series where Army West Point fans can read about their favorite players.
NAME: Taler Brazell
HOMETOWN: Las Vegas, Nev.
MAJOR:Â Mathematical Science with Honors with an applied Statistics Minor
DESCRIBE YOUR HEAD COACH: Coach Peck is the "coolest dude" on our courts. He is always there for you but not afraid to give you a nudge if you need it. He is firm but fair and always is looking for us to be the best.
WHO IS YOUR ROLE MODEL AND WHY:Â My role model is my mom. She is everything I want to embody as a person: kind, caring, creative, loving, and a hard worker. My mom is always there for me for the good and the really bad and to me, she is superwoman.
GREATEST ATHLETE ON EARTH TODAY IS: Ronda Roussey or JJ Watt, they are beasts.
FAVORITE ARMY WEST POINT TEAM OTHER THAN YOUR OWN: Army Men's Basketball—we are Beast and Buckner buddies.
FAVORITE VENUE TO PLAY IN:Â Lichtenberg Tennis Center
OPPONENT MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO PLAYING: Navy—love the energy and the team just coming together.
WHAT TEAM NOT ON YOUR SCHEDULE WOULD YOU LIKE TO PLAY AND WHY: I would like to see us play Boston College because I think it would be interesting to see how we stack up.
HOW ARE YOU SPENDING YOUR SUMMER: I will be spending my summer first at CLDT and then six weeks doing an AIAD at a lab in Harvard researching nanofibers then two weeks home with my twin sister.
ON MY TEAM, I AM THE BEST… at being a nerd. I am always the one with a book or flashcards in my hand. Coach jokes sometimes that I am too smart for my own good (aka when the door says pull, I'll push it)
FAVORITE MEAL: Salad and chicken. All the team ever sees me eat is salad and when I was little, to make me eat food I didn't know what it was, my mom would just tell me its chicken and I would eat it.
IF YOU COULD GO ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, WHERE WOULD YOU GO:Â I would go to New Zealand with my family. We went when I was really young and I loved it. Would love to go back.
FAVORITE WARMUP SONG: Anything by Fallout Boy. Love that band.
BIGGEST NIGHTMARE: Quitting at anything. I push myself, sometimes too hard, because I am afraid of what would happen if I don't. I have huge, sometimes unrealistic, expectations.
FAVORITE PART OF WEST POINT:Â The people and the opportunities. I have the best teammates (they are my sisters) and I would not be here without them. Additionally, the things I have been able to do here are unparalleled I mean being able to study in a Harvard graduate lab as a freshman and sophomore?! Crazy. I am truly lucky and blessed.
DESCRIBE ARMY WEST POINT TENNIS:Â Emotions. We are like any family we fight, but at the end of the day one thing stands which is that we have each other's back. We protect our own and pick each other up when we fall. Something I don't think many people get to experience but for our team it is more than just tennis.
FAVORITE TV SHOW GROWING UP: Rugrats, Johnny Bravo, Powerpuff Girls and Dexter's Laboratory
MOST MEMORABLE ATHLETIC MOMENT: 2014 Navy. Loved the emotion it was awesome. I felt a part of something bigger than myself. Also finishing my second half marathon with my mom, I had so much fun!
HOW ARE YOU IMPROVING YOUR GAME IN THE OFFSEASON: Hitting the gym! And working out like crazy. I am a workout fiend. My roommates and teammates don't think I ever sleep.
WHAT PLAYER WILL SURPRISE PEOPLE NEXT SEASON:Â Victoria Falk. I think she is going to bring it next season.
WHO IS THE STRONGEST PLAYER ON YOUR TEAM: Definitely my triplet  Eva Sung. She is that power player you don't want to be on the other side of the net from. Plus we are a powerhouse doubles team when we play together.
WHO IS THE MOST ENTERTAINING PLAYER ON YOUR TEAM: Carolyn Pitman without a doubt. She has so much energy and just a great competitor. Love watching her.
WHICH TEAMMATE IS MOST LIKELY TO BECOME A GENERAL: Julian Mok. I think she would be a great leader. She is cool under pressure and a great teammate that I love having on the team.
ADVICE FOR INCOMING PLEBE TEAMMATES: Push yourself no matter what. Especially here it is amazing the opportunities that arise when you take the more challenging path. Though at times it's hard, you are stronger than you think.Â
FAVORITE PERSON TO FOLLOW ON TWITTER:Â I don't have twitter but if I did I would follow Jimmy Kimmel: he is hilarious and a Vegas native. Vegas represent!
