Records Fall at Navy for Women’s Swim & Dive

RESULTS
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Army West Point women's swimming and diving team recorded five Academy and two plebe records in tonight's dual-meet with service academy rival Navy. The Black Knights fell to the Mids 234.5-65.5 at Thursday evening's Star Meet.
The Black Knights were third in the 200 medley relay. The team of Cecelia Croman, Jess Fabrizio, Molly Mucciarone and Kelly Hamilton touched the wall in 1:42.14 to tie the current Academy record.
Sabrina Mortell kicked off the individual events by setting a new standard in the 1000 free. The sophomore touched the wall in 10:00.09, which bested the previous Academy record by 12 seconds. Meaghan McGovern placed fifth to set a plebe record with a time of 10:07.66.
Monica Sowinski earned an Academy and plebe record mark in the 200 free. She placed fifth after clocking a 1:49.99. Kelly Hamilton won the 100 back with an Academy record time of 54.41, also an NCAA B-Cut time, while Bailey Smith was third in 55.59, besting Hamilton's plebe record.
In the 100 breast, Kara Wineinger placed third in 1:04.26, while Jess Ambrose was fifth in 1:04.46. Shannon Rogers was Army's top finisher in the 200 fly with a time of 2:01.74.
Mucciarone finished third in the 50 free after touching the wall in 23.10. Hamilton was third in the 100 free with an Academy record time of 50.42, her second record of the night.
Smith set a new plebe standard in the 200 back with a time of 1:58.79, an NCAA B-Cut time. In the 200 breast, Ambrose was Army's top finisher after clocking a 2:19.49.
Mortell placed second in the 500 free with a season-best time of 4:53.38. She was followed by McGovern who placed fourth with a time of 4:57.35.
In the 100 fly, Rogers placed fourth after touching the wall in 55.66. Sidney Evans (2:05.30) and Jess Burkett (2:06.09) placed fourth and fifth in the 200 IM for the Black Knights.
Army closed-out the swimming portion with a third place showing in the 400 free relay. The team of Hamilton, Mucciarone, Rogers and Sowinski touched the wall in 3:26.32.
In the diving segment, Jorie Mason was fourth off the 1-meter with 189.30 points and was followed by Ari Rocha who tallied 186.90 points. Mason also placed fourth on the 3-meter with a score of 217.80. Rocha was sixth with 190.73 points.
The Black Knights will be back in action after the new year when they host Lehigh and Bucknell on January 8-9.
