Tamburri Tabbed AAA Athlete of the Week

WEST POINT, N.Y. – After recording a career-high 15 tackles and blocking the potential game-tying extra point with 3:29 left against Navy, Army West Point sprint football linebacker Matthew Tamburri earned his first-career Army Athletic Association Athlete of the Week recognition. Tamburri's block also earned him the Play of the Week.
The block helped the Black Knights secure a 24-23 Star victory over service academy rival Navy and clinch the outright Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) championship, the program's 34th in 58 years. The win also preserved Army's perfect 7-0 season.
The junior from Newburgh, N.Y., finished the 2015 season as Army's leading tackler with 46. Tamburri closed out the season tied for ninth in the CSFL in total tackles with 46 and tied for 16th in tackles per game with 6.6. He added 7.0 tackles for loss for 33 yards including 2.0 sacks for 19 yards, as well as two interceptions. Tamburri returned one of those picks back 35 yards for his first-career touchdown against Franklin Pierce.
