Tamburri Snags CSFL Defensive Honors
October 20, 2015 | Sprint Football
WEST POINT, N.Y. – After leading the Army West Point sprint football team to its record-setting fifth consecutive shutout Saturday, the Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) has recognized sophomore Matthew Tamburri as the team's second Defensive Player of the Week honors of the season.
"Matt is like having an extra coach in the field," said head coach Mark West. "In addition to his defensive contributions, he also handles our long snapping duties. He puts a lot of time into helping our team win, and it's nice to see all of his hard work paying off."
The linebacker from Newburgh, N.Y. returned an interception 35 yards for a touchdown while leading the Black Knights with nine tackles including a sack for 10 yards. Army defeated the Falcons 24-0 to conclude its four-game road trip.
The Black Knights also garnered the defensive accolade after the first week when sophomore defensive back Tanner Andrews had a hand in three of the team's six turnovers. Senior kicker Warren Kay also earned the Special Teams Player of the Week after a five for five performance against Post with a pair of field goals.
Army returns to action on Friday when Penn comes to Shea Stadium for a 7 p.m. kickoff. Â Â Â Â Â
