WEST POINT, N.Y.  – One Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Five Scholar-Athletes in their respective sports. Twenty Academic All-Patriot League choices. One hundred and fifty-four Patriot League Honor Roll selections. Seventeen Atlantic Hockey Association All-Academic Team choices.

Not only has it been a good year for the Army Athletic Association on the field, it has been a banner year in the classroom as well.

With the Patriot League distribution of academic awards complete, the numbers show a tremendous academic year in the classroom for the Black Knights.

“We are tremendously proud of these athletes,” said Army Director of Athletics Boo Corrigan. “These numbers are a testament to the hard work and dedication of our cadet-athletes as well as our Officer Representatives and the Center for Enhanced Performance. I am humbled to lead such a talented group of cadet-athletes who are doing great things in the classroom, on the playing fields and in the military.”

Lacrosse standout Brendan Buckley was not only the Scholar-Athlete for his sport, but for the Patriot League as well. Track and field star Lisa Junta, women’s tennis standout Jamila Paul and volleyball all-star Mary Vaccaro also collected Scholar-Athlete of the Year citations from the Patriot League. Cheyne Rocha were presented with Atlantic Hockey Association Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors as well.

Buckley and Rocha also earned Academic All-America first-team honors and won the Senior CLASS Award in their respective sports.

Twenty cadet-athletes from 14 sports, were chosen to their respective Academic All-Patriot League Teams. A cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.2 and being a starter of key reserves were the minimum requirements. A total of 154 cadet-athletes were mentioned on Patriot League Honor Rolls. Eight of 17 eligible sports had at least 10 cadet-athletes that posted at least a 3.2 grade-point average. The men’s track and field squad led the way with 30 selections while the women’s track and field team had 17 chosen.
